About the Author
Nick Stone grew up in New Jersey and spent his summers with his grandmother, parents, siblings and extended family on MacMahan Island on the coast of Maine, where he worked one summer at Bath Iron Works as a pipe fitter’s helper. He received his BA, cum laude, from Princeton University, where he majored in English, was a member of the American Civilization Program and rowed on the varsity crew.
Boats and the sea have always been fundamental elements of his life. Following graduation, he served as an officer in the United States Coast Guard, first on board the DUANE, a 327' cutter on search and rescue and ocean station duties between Boston and Greenland, and then at Captain of the Port Boston, where he was duty officer on the night of the sinking of the ANDREA DORIA . He subsequently attended Harvard Law School and practiced law in Boston. He and his wife Erin now make MacMahan Island their primary home.
